Who else finds it a little “annoying” when celebrities reach out to the public for monetary help?
Tears are *Diamonds* asked:
A lot of times you’ll see very rich celebrities coming to the public for help in a particular situation when they have MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars. I find it a little annoying because some of us are barely making it trying to support ourselves and live day to day and for them, who buy 50,000 purses and 15 million dollar homes, ask US to help…when they’re probably getting paid to sponsor an event like that

How do you know that they didn’t donate a few million to the cause? They’re doing a good thing either way, since a celebrity grabs attention, a regular joe usually won’t. If there’s nothing to grab attention, very few will donate to the cause, defeating the purpose of a fundraiser.
Yes. These people will pay 250$ on a pair of jeans, 500$ on a purse, eat out at fancy cafes and restaurants whenever they feel like it, own 50 pairs of shoes, stay at expensive hotels, etc, etc,.
Ya, celebrities get paid for everything, they’ll even show up in a limousine or fly out on a private jet.
However, I believe sponsorships and fundraisers should be held for catastrophes, but by regular people, people who know what it’s like to be in need.
yeah i cant stand them.
all this live 8 stuff with bono and paul mcarttney telling us to dip into ouur pockets, why dont they fking do it, they could wipe out 3rd world debt on their if they wanted to.
I applaud celebrities who use their popularity to solicit help for the needy as opposed to simply using it for famewhoring.
I agree with Aporia. Everybody knows that there are people in the world who will do anything someone rich and famous tells them to do (Oprah, anyone?), so when some of them use their fame to raise awareness and funds for a cause that benefits everybody, I admire it. I don’t think they mean, “Hey, you there, who can barely pay your bills, cough up a couple bucks!” It’s more like, “those of you with disposable income who were going to donate it somewhere for tax purposes, here’s something I care about and maybe you’ll care too.”
Also, charity concerts ARE a donation because they are taking the millions of dollars that could be going into their pockets and giving them to the cause instead. They acutally lose money on that kind of deal, because they need their profits to pay the enormous cost of putting on a concert.
Not to mention that most of the time, the celebrities who are supporting these causes have given money or time or resources to them, they just have no need to announce that.
