Besides the price, how can you tell the difference between a real designer purse and a fake one?
Angel Eyes asked:
I ask b/c I went to Chinatown and Canal Street in New York and I bought a lot of fake Louis Vuitton, Prada, Coach…ect purses for like 15-35 dollars each. They look real and I know they’re fake or whatever, but how can the eye decifer if it’s phony just by appearance?
For some people on here who commented: I don’t give a hot damn if people knew it was a fake. I am NOT trying to fool anyone! I told everyone that it was a fake and I got it for $15. I wouldn’t ever spend my friggin 2 weeks’ paycheck on a $500 designer purse, even if I was Bill Gates’ daughter. That’s a waste of money. You might as well flush that cash down the toilet, b/c look! 10 years down the line another French guy will come up w/ a purse that will put Louis Vuitton to shame. You must have the wrong person, sweetheart.

and coach have serial #s
If you look really closely the patterns aren’t often exactly the same, slight color differences, missing symbols, The C’s in a Coach purse might be turned into U’s or G’s
It gets harder and harder to tell.
Now, some copies have serial numbers, have authentication tags… the whole lot. And, they are PERFECT copies.
In the old days you could compare the difference in colour, lining, sewing quality, authentication tags, serial numbers, imprints of logos.
But nowadays, really you cannot tell with the naked eye.
Probably, in New York, the fake purses there are still very primative. I’d say, looking at the simple differences will tell you.
Look for low quality leather or plastic. Look for uneven linings and linigns that are not sew straight. look at the sewing. See if it is tight and straight. Ensure the logos are imprinted into the bag. Make sure that the symbols on the lining of the bag are actually the right ones and are supposed to be there. Check for the right number of inside pickets and a good zipper. Scratch the outside to see if the fabric changes colour.
However, in asian countries… the purses are so good, the experts cannot tell them apart. The only way is if you find two more more purses with the same serial number.
In reality, it does not cost very much to sew a good purse. You mainly pay for the brand markup and expensive labour. So, if a knock off is sewn to “perfection” and there’s no mark up, you’d still pay a TON less. This is especially true when labour in some asian countries are so cheap. Cheap does not mean NOT GOOD.
well you have to look at the material of the purse, and i heard that some companies will actually engrave thier logos onto the bag so it’s not just printed so you can try looking for that and the stitching. like my sister told me tha ther teacher said that koreatown has the best fake purses, even the professionals who examined it found it hard ot tell a differnece, and they saw that the stitching was the only difference. hoped that helped!
The colors are different or the symbols are different…like some one had bought me a fake coach and I call it a Goach cause they are G’s not C’s. On the Louis’ most of the L/V symbols are either too high or too low. most times the leathers are not good quality and the colors are off.
Check the stitiching inside the purse. Fake purses won’t be sewn as straight and tight as real purses. Pull on a seam easy and see if it starts to separate. Don’t rip it… just see if it would easily rip if you applied more pressure.
the feel of the bag is like the main thing. most of those bags are made with cheap materials and they’re plastic or made with a synthetic material. the lining also tends to be a cheaper material than those of a real purse. also, if you take a look at the stitching, its not perfect like those of a real bag. the stitching tends to be wobbly or coming apart at the seams. the bags they sell on canal street are pretty similar to the real thing, adn at a glance you could never tell they were fake.
Inside of your bag there is usually a zippered pocket, well, if the bag is real then you should see a patch with a bar code number on it.
the real ones are mostly made in Italy… look at where it is made
Unless you know your fashion really well, Just take a photo scan on the web and send a copy too the designer company and ask for identification
Or take a photo with your camera phone and take it too a legit store and ask.. I wouldn’t buy on the spot. Chances are if it’s too good to be true, it often is.
Baby I’d leave the fashion business and and pick up a guitar.
Smell has a lot to do with it. Real leather has a distinctive smell. How it feels is a tale tale sign of a knock off. It doesn’t have the soft or buttery feel of the real one. Also the quality of the purse is not the same. A real designer bag can stand the test of times. By experience it gets easier to tell the fakes from the real deal.
The quality is a dead give away. I can spot a fake purse ,the stitching, the leather, the logo. even the zippers are different . But who are you trying to fool ? If you are trying to act like you paid full dollar for the real thing and you are wearing Walmart shoes that’s just sad . But if you aren’t making a big deal out of it and they make you feel good who cares. Anyone who owns one of the real ones can spot a knock-off. Most people cant.Just have fun and if you want a real one why don’t you save up and buy a nice one of whatever designer you like best.
i wouldnt know the difference to be honest with u, and i wouldnt care!! hey, as long as its cheap, im sure to get it!
